SURABAYA, July 31, 2024 – As part of the commemoration of the 77th Cooperative Day in 2024 at the provincial level, the East Java Provincial Office of Cooperatives and SMEs once again held the exhibition titled The 11th Cooperative, MSME Expo 2024, which takes place over five consecutive days, from July 31 to August 4, 2024.
Held at Grand City Surabaya, the exhibition was officially opened by Acting Assistant for Economic Affairs and Development of the East Java Regional Secretariat, Joko Irianto; Acting Head of the Office of Cooperatives and SMEs, Iwan; and Acting Regent of Tulungagung, Heru Suseno. Also attending the event was Bank Jatim’s Director of Micro, Retail, and Medium Business, R. Arief Wicaksono, who symbolically disbursed a KUR (People’s Business Credit) of IDR 500 million to customer Usnida Musalamah on Wednesday (31/7).
Arief explained that financial support such as KUR plays a significant role in boosting economic growth. “Bank Jatim is always ready to be a partner to various stakeholders in supporting regional development. We play a role as an agent of development, which must be implemented through real support — particularly in financial assistance for MSMEs, which has wider economic and social impacts,” he stated.
According to Arief, Bank Jatim has consistently supported MSMEs to grow, develop, and level up by providing quality and well-targeted credit disbursement. Through this, Bank Jatim’s KUR is expected to generate a multiplier effect capable of spurring economic activity across East Java. “We aim to finance sectors that can become engines of economic growth through credit disbursement, which will in turn accelerate the national economy, especially in East Java,” he added.
As of Q1 2024, Bank Jatim has disbursed IDR 56.9 trillion in credit, an 18.76% increase year-on-year — surpassing the national average credit growth of 12.40%. The credit portfolio comprises IDR 31.3 trillion in consumer credit (up 7.40% YoY) and IDR 25.6 trillion in productive credit (up 36.34% YoY). The increase in productive credit was driven mainly by strong growth in the micro segment (up 36.63% YoY), the retail & medium segment (up 58.40% YoY), and the corporate segment (up 17.97% YoY).
In addition, to provide easier financing access for the public, Bank Jatim has developed a digital platform called Jatim Kilat. During Q1 2024, Jatim Kilat approved credits amounting to IDR 1.97 trillion, with another IDR 375.19 billion in process. “We hope that our massive credit disbursement will help realize the dreams of MSMEs and allow their businesses to grow even bigger,” Arief emphasized.
Carrying the theme Inclusive and Sustainable MSME Transformation, this year’s K-UKM Expo features a wide range of activities including MSME product exhibitions, business matching, workshops, talk shows, a KUKM corner and startup corner, as well as various competitions. Joko Irianto noted that through these activities, the event is expected to encourage businesses to implement sustainable development goals (SDGs). “By applying SDGs to a business, it becomes more resilient to social, economic, and environmental risks. Moreover, SDG implementation encourages companies to develop innovative solutions to achieve those goals,” he said.
Joko further added that the K-UKM Expo 2024 is expected to facilitate the marketing of regional superior products to national, regional, and global markets, promote the growth of competitive cooperatives and small and medium enterprises, and raise awareness, pride, and confidence among the public in buying and using locally-produced cooperative and MSME goods. “Through this event, we hope we can collectively support national economic recovery by strengthening the cooperative and MSME sector,” he concluded.
