SURABAYA, January 13, 2024. Kicking off 2024, PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (bankjatim) has officially provided Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) assistance to the Ngawi Regency Government. The assistance is for covering the cost of the Siamese twin separation surgery at Dr. Soetomo Regional General Hospital (RSUD Dr. Soetomo). The handover ceremony took place in the Loka Widya meeting room at RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya, where the CSR was symbolically presented by bankjatim President Director Busrul Iman to the Regent of Ngawi, Ony Anwar Harsono, on Monday (13/1). East Java Acting Governor Adhy Karyono and RSUD Dr. Soetomo Director Prof. Dr. Cita Rosita Sigit Prakoeswa were also present to witness the event.

Busrul Iman explained that the CSR assistance for the babies named Azizah Syafa Arabella and Azizah Syafa Adelina is hoped to enable them to lead normal lives in the future. "We are very grateful that these two eight-month-old babies have successfully undergone a high-difficulty separation surgery. Their post-operative care is now declared complete, and they have been returned to their parents. Moving forward, they will undergo routine check-ups at a hospital in Ngawi," he stated.

According to Busrul, bankjatim, as the pride of the East Java community, feels a social responsibility. Thus, it is proper and fitting to work hand-in-hand to make East Java better through the bankjatim Peduli (Cares) program. "This CSR handover is a tangible manifestation of bankjatim's commitment to participate in sustainable economic development for institutions, communities, and the surrounding society. We hope that the cooperation between bankjatim, the Ngawi Regional Government, and RSUD Dr. Soetomo will continue to grow in the future. And may these babies grow up healthy and become a generation that can make their parents and the nation proud," Busrul added.

On the same occasion, East Java Acting Governor Adhy Karyono expressed pride and appreciation for RSUD Dr. Soetomo, which once again demonstrated its capacity as a national referral hospital for Siamese twin cases. "RSUD Dr. Soetomo consistently provides the best service for Siamese twin separation surgeries. Since 1975, this hospital has handled 131 patients. And this is the 126th baby, successfully separated, alhamdulillah (thank God)," he remarked.

According to Adhy, the primary issue with Siamese twins is the high cost of the operation. However, thanks to the cooperation between the East Java Provincial Government, Bank Jatim through its CSR funds, and the Ngawi Regency Government, the entire cost of the operation and three and a half months of treatment was fully covered. "This type of financing scheme can serve as an example for other provinces. We will continue to commit to providing the best services for the people of East Java, even for cases not covered by BPJS," he affirmed.

Ngawi Regent Ony Anwar Harsono also expressed gratitude for the successful operation. He appreciated the synergy among the East Java Provincial Government, RSUD Dr. Soetomo, and bankjatim. "This is an important part of human resource development. Hopefully, this will be a good start for their future, and they can grow up normally like others," he expressed.

RSUD Dr. Soetomo Director Prof. Cita Rosita Sigit Prakoeswa explained that this case was one of the highest difficulty operations. The surgery took place on November 4, 2024, starting at 08:20 AM and finishing at 02:30 AM the next day. The process required 18 hours and 10 minutes, involving 126 medical personnel across various disciplines. The experts involved came from fields including pediatric surgery, orthopedics, neonatology, and anesthesiology. "This case involved a conjoined area covering the pelvis, spine, and vital nerves, which necessitated extremely careful planning for the separation process. But we are grateful that everything went very well thanks to the cooperation of many parties," she concluded.
