SURABAYA, October 14, 2024 – As part of its commitment to addressing the issue of excessive gas emissions on campus, PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (Bank Jatim), in collaboration with Universitas Airlangga (Unair), has signed a sponsorship agreement for electric bicycles. The agreement was signed on Monday (October 14) at the Office of the Vice-Rector for Resources of Unair by Bank Jatim’s SEVP of Corporate, Syndication, and Institutional Banking, Koerniawan Prijambodo, and Unair’s Director of Facilities & Infrastructure, Nugroho Saskirono. The signing ceremony was also attended by Bank Jatim’s Director of Micro, Retail, and Medium Business, R. Arief Wicaksono, and Unair’s Vice-Rector for Resources, Muhammad Madyan.
Arief explained that under this collaboration, Bank Jatim provided 50 units of “Unair Bike” electric bicycles for two purposes. First, to help address the issue of excessive emissions on the Unair campus. Second, to support Unair’s green campus initiative, which also aligns with Bank Jatim’s commitment to sustainable finance. The electric bikes provided by Bank Jatim are specially designed for user comfort and safety, and each unit is equipped with a GPS tracker to ensure easy tracking and security.
“This partnership is part of our commitment to making a positive contribution to the environment and a sustainable economy. We hope the collaboration between Bank Jatim and Unair will bring benefits to both parties and help campus visitors get accustomed to using electric vehicles,” he said.
According to Arief, this collaboration is not just a big step but a concrete action taken by both Unair and Bank Jatim to initiate public participation in transitioning to a new lifestyle—one that is more sustainable and directly addresses the growing global concern of air pollution.
Muhammad Madyan added that Universitas Airlangga is one of the universities that is deeply committed to reducing its carbon footprint. This commitment has been manifested in the “Zero Carbon Emissions” program on campus to realize an Eco Green Campus. In line with this, Unair has made preparations, including the development of supporting facilities such as eco-friendly transportation for all campus visitors. Based on this background, Unair is committed to using electric transportation (e-bikes and e-motorcycles) as part of implementing its Eco Green Campus program through the development of the Unair Bike system.
“We extend our highest appreciation to Bank Jatim for providing this mode of electric transportation, especially the electric bicycles. Hopefully, our joint efforts to reduce air pollution will be well implemented,” he said.
Users can rent the bicycles through the intuitive and user-friendly Unair Bike mobile app, which allows them to book, pay, and report issues easily. To use the service, users must register by providing required personal information such as name, email address, and phone number. Once registered, users will receive an account that can be used to book a bike.
