SURABAYA, August 10, 2025. PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (Bank Jatim), in collaboration with the Surabaya City Government, successfully held a Senior Fitness Event on Sunday morning (10/8). Located in the Surabaya City Hall yard, the event, which was part of Bank Jatim's anniversary celebrations, was attended by 640 seniors. This number also symbolized Bank Jatim's age this year, as it has reached 64 years old. Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi and Acting President Director of Bank Jatim Arif Suhirman were also present at the occasion.
Arif explained that the activity was held to increase the empowerment and concern of families and the community in an effort to improve the health of senior citizens. Therefore, Bank Jatim highly appreciates the enthusiasm of the seniors who attended and participated in this event. "All participants were extraordinary; this is proof that seniors in Surabaya City are still very active and look healthy, fit, and refreshed," he stated.
Arif advised all seniors to always maintain their health and be happy. According to him, Bank Jatim held the healthy fitness event for seniors across Surabaya during its 64th anniversary as a form of care for maintaining the health of senior citizens.
"Through activities like this, Bank Jatim shows that social concern can go hand-in-hand with its role as a financial institution. This senior fitness event can also further strengthen Bank Jatim's efforts to take an active role in building a healthier and more empowered community. By involving the general public, Bank Jatim not only builds social awareness but also strengthens its relationship with the local community," he emphasized.
Eri Cahyadi also added that the activity was not just to celebrate Bank Jatim's anniversary but also part of the City Government's effort to increase the Life Expectancy (AHH) of senior citizens in the City of Heroes. "The Surabaya City Government is committed to improving the quality of life for seniors. Based on research by a professor at Universitas Airlangga (Unair), regular exercise, especially for menopausal women, is proven to extend life expectancy. Therefore, we will cooperate with the Faculty of Medicine, Unair, to develop a special exercise program for seniors, complete with the appropriate types and times of execution," he explained.
Currently, the AHH in Surabaya is quite high, at 75.82 years, which also boosts the city's Human Development Index (IPM). Eri also asserted that happiness is the key to longevity. "The point is happiness. Happy people live long, so don't be stressed," he concluded.
Besides the senior fitness event, a symbolic handover to the recipients of free cataract surgery assistance from Bank Jatim and Bank NTB Syariah was also carried out on the occasion. Still part of the 64th-anniversary series of events for PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (Bank Jatim), Bank Jatim, along with Bank NTB Syariah and Inisiatif Zakat Indonesia (IZI), had also collaborated in a free cataract surgery social activity on Saturday (2/8). This was a form of the company's commitment to supporting access to health for the community.
A total of 10 cataract patients received free surgery services. According to Arif, cataracts are a leading cause of preventable blindness. However, limited access to healthcare services remains a challenge for some people. Therefore, with this social activity, we hope to provide a direct impact on public health and also help reduce the financial burden that often becomes the main obstacle for those who need medical services.
The surgery implementation process began with health screening by professional medical personnel, followed by referral for treatment, the operation itself, and post-operative control to ensure effective recovery. "We want to ensure every participant receives the best treatment so they can recover quickly and return to their activities," Arif closed.
