SURABAYA, September 12, 2024. PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (bankjatim) signed a cooperation agreement with the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) on Thursday (12/9). The agreement focuses on the utilization and exchange of online data for the People’s Business Credit (KUR) program specifically for the placement of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). The signing took place at Bank Jatim’s Head Office and was carried out by Bank Jatim’s Director of Micro, Retail, and Medium Business, R. Arief Wicaksono, and BP2MI’s Principal Secretary, Rinardi.

Arief explained that the scope of the agreement includes: the use of PMI data, specifically candidates who have applied for KUR for placement and meet the requirements in BP2MI’s Sisko P2MI database; the use of validation data on KUR applications owned by Bank Jatim; reporting on KUR distribution consisting of executive summaries and detailed data; and providing a list of private placement agencies (P3MI) that have partnered with Bank Jatim for PMI placements.

KUR for PMI Placement is a financing program specifically designed for PMI candidates and/or prospective interns abroad, aimed at covering placement costs to destination countries. “We at Bank Jatim are very supportive of migrant workers. East Java is home to significant numbers of PMI candidates. We hope this partnership becomes a positive effort from both sides to enhance PMI welfare. With this agreement, the disbursement of KUR to PMIs will now be protected by a clear legal framework,” said Arief.

He also stated that Bank Jatim’s KUR program helps ease the financial burden on PMIs, as they no longer need to sell assets or borrow from loan sharks to meet their needs. “We are committed to accelerating and optimizing the distribution of KUR for PMIs so that it can be effectively used by a wider audience. This initiative aims to support our nation’s foreign exchange heroes in securing a better life for themselves and their families,” he added.

Rinardi expressed that the KUR for PMI Placement program was born out of a desire to improve the economic welfare of PMIs and their families in Indonesia, while reducing their dependence on high-risk informal loans. The government continues to promote KUR as a preferred and affordable financing option for PMI candidates in need. “We are very grateful to Bank Jatim for this established synergy. Hopefully, we can continue to collaborate in the future to support economic welfare and the growth of foreign exchange in Indonesia,” he concluded.
