Supporting Food Security, Bank Jatim Disburses Credit to Tulungagung Sugarcane Farmer Group

TULUNGAGUNG, OCTOBER 14, 2023. PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk or bankjatim has just signed a cooperation agreement with Gapoktan Tebu Tulungagung on Saturday (14/10). Located at the PT Inti Rosan Makmur Sentosa Tulungagung Sugar Factory, the signing was carried out by bankjatim Tulungagung Branch Manager Murjoko Teguh Hariyanto along with several other agencies. Namely Bank BPR Jatim, PT Pupuk Kaltim, and PT Inti Rosan Makmur Sentosa. Also present on the occasion were East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa and bankjatim Micro, Retail and Medium Director R. Arief Wicaksono.
Arief explained, this cooperation is part of bankjatim's support for government programs in realizing food security and improving the lives of farmers. "The cooperation agreement signed today relates to the utilization of working capital credit products provided by bankjatim to sugarcane farmer groups in Tulungagung in the hope of increasing farmers' yields, both in terms of quantity and quality of sugar cane," he said.
In addition to the signing of the cooperation agreement, in the activity also took place the symbolic provision of credit to Gapoktan Tebu Tulungagung bankjatim customers. The credits handed over include KUR Micro Credit of Rp 100 million, RC Retail Jatim Credit of Rp 3 billion, Jatim Micro Credit of Rp 200 million, Jatim Retail Credit of Rp 550 million, and KUR Small Credit of Rp 150 million. "Hopefully the signing of this agreement can create food self-sufficiency, especially sugar, both in East Java and Indonesia," said Arief.

Meanwhile, Khofifah welcomed the signing of the declaration of support for sugarcane farmers. She hopes that with this signing, each partner can provide mutual support, both in terms of capital and fertilizer provision. In addition, the most important thing is to encourage the sustainability of sugar production at the farm level to sugar factories. So that in the future farmers can produce quality sugar cane and create a healthy, highly competitive, and profitable agribusiness situation for all parties.
Moreover, in Tulungagung Regency there are a lot of sugar cane factories that produce Brown Sugar. According to Khofifah, the price of brown sugar itself can be above white crystal sugar. So brown sugar has tremendous potential if it enters the export market. "Hopefully the signing of this declaration can encourage the efforts of sugarcane farmers in East Java and can increase economic growth and welfare for the people of East Java," she concluded.
